Bogie System

The Bogie system has a great impact on overall performance of the Spartan Superway project since it accounts for the speed, safety and riding experience of passengers throughout the trip. The design of the bogie first need to be safe and reliable then considering light-weight and simplicity. I think that our main focus for this year (fall 2015)  is to come up with the fail & safe mechanism for the bogie system first then redesign a more neater set up for the bogie. As of right now, full scale bogie is very bulky and heavy, I believe we can adjust more compact design and choose lighter materials with enough strength to provide better support for the certain weight limit. Through some research and reading, I came up with a bogie design concept, where the main wheels are four vertical wheels driven the vehicle, the retractable wheels use to switch direction where the vehicle is going by attach on the left or right small track on the bottom. The design is much simpler and more compacter compare to the current bogie system. In addition, there can be room for sensor system to track speed, failure and location of the vehicle moving ( not showing in the picture).
