Suspension Bogie System Design Concepts

For this design, I got the ideas from the roller coaster rides that always gave me the adrenaline rush. I thought about how the roller coaster can flip upside down and goes through lots of difficult courses while keeping the passengers happy at top speed 70 miles per hour. I looked at different designs of roller coaster bogies and realized the similarity in each design. So i thought about apply the similar concept to the design on the bogie for Spartan Super-way project. The design consists of ten wheels total: top, bottom and side wheels. The two arms of the design act as the steering mechanism that hug on the side on the track and switch directions. This design is desired since it is very compact, light and effective in switching tracks. For instance, when the vehicle wants to go right, the left arm open up and readjust to the new track. In addition, I thought about motorcycle disk braking system which is applicable to the suspension bogie system since it is very safe and effective in emergency cases. Furthermore, the disk braking is reliable and light-weight.

  1. Thang, I like your idea of putting a wheel underneath. I don't quite follow what happens when it's in the switch.

I wonder if you could create a simple mock-up of your idea using simple materials (cardboard? wood?). A SolidWorks drawing might also help people to visualize what you are proposing.
